Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

A journey to healing from complex trauma.

Society is set up to protect and support people who cause harm, and badly fails the victims and those vulnerable.

I was just reading a Facebook post about women smoking while pregnant. It shocks me that the posts that were supporting people smoking and potentially harming their babies, received more ‘likes’, than those opposing it.

But, sadly this is a true reflection of society, supporting and protecting the rights of those doing wrong, far more than supporting those who have been wronged, the innocent, the vulnerable.

The legal systems in most countries, are set up to protect the accused, not the victim.

Bullying occurs in large organisations, where the victim is rarely supported and the bully allowed to continue.

Many people who suspect there is abuse occurring in a family, don’t do anything, so the victims continue to be abused and the abusers are protected.

Many in society doesn’t want physical discipline made illegal, even though this is to help reduce the amount of child abuse occurring, enabling more abuse to continue.

Stigma, ignorance and avoidance of ‘taboo’ issues, like mental health, abuse, are exactly what allows them to continue and they are increasing. But society doesn’t want to ‘get involved’, failing these vulnerable people.

Religious organisations protect people who hurt and abuse others. They keep it in-house, keeping it hushed up, keeping it a secret and enabling it to continue, rather than dealing with it appropriately, in a way that validates and supports the victim’s pain.

Health systems are set up to treat a paedophile with all his physical health needs, but the same health system refuses to pay for the adequate mental health treatment the paedophiles victims suffer, due to his abuse.

There are many more examples of this and it shows how badly society is failing victims and vulnerable people.

This upsets me greatly, as being a victim of much abuse, being on the receiving end of stigma, being on the receiving end of a badly flawed justice system and health systems who fail to support my health needs, and being subjected to prejudice, of harm hushed up and ignored and knowing how much this goes on all around the world to billions of people every day, is truly horrendous.

Society is failing vulnerable people badly.

And protecting those who cause the harm.

Author: Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

I am a survivor of complex and multiple trauma and abuse, who at the age of 40, began my healing journey. I am using my journey to recovery and healing, to help others, to help survivors feel less alone, validated, encouraged and to enable others to understand themselves more. Complex trauma, particularly from severe, prolonged childhood abuse, is profoundly life changing. Complex trauma produces complex adults. The journey to recovery is a painful, often lonely, emotional daily challenge and it is my aim to encourage others in their daily battle. ~ Lilly Hope Lucario
