A journey to healing from complex trauma.

People…help the people.

I love this song and I know some of the deeper meaning.

Birdy “People Help The People”
(originally by Cherry Ghost)

God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
Guess he kissed the girls and made them cry
Those Hard-faced Queens of misadventure
God knows what is hiding in those weak and sunken lives
Fiery thrones of muted angels
Giving love but getting nothing back,oh

People help the people
And if you’re homesick, give me your hand and I’ll hold it
People help the people
And nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I’d be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away

God knows what is hiding in this world of little consequence
Behind the tears, inside the lies
A thousand slowly dying sunsets
God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
Guess the loneliness came knocking
No one needs to be alone, oh singin’

People help the people
And if you’re homesick, give me your hand and I’ll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I’d be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away

Nah Naaah nah nah naaaaahhhhhh oooouuuu

Nah Naaah nah nah naaaaahhhhhh oooouuuu

People help the people
And if you’re homesick, give me your hand and I’ll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I’d be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away

This song has so much meaning for me, so much that it makes me cry.

I understand deep loneliness, deep suffering and no-one caring and wanting to take the hand of all those suffering and lead them to Jesus, but I can’t.

I know this ‘world of little consequence’, I’ve had this all my life, none of my abusers have had the consequences to their sin that should occur, but didn’t.

And this will probably happen with the spiritual abuse complaint, it will probably be minimized and the deeper sin of spiritual abuse will be ignored – spiritual abuse is evil. I will be very surprised if these spiritual abusers get the consequences God would require in this, it will all get tangled up people’s heads of which Bible verses to consider, which religious ideas do we need to follow and cognitive distortions will occur – as they do when people are under pressure, and wisdom will likely not prevail.

And that’s life, that’s human, sinful people.

I understand the ‘drunken people’ part is not about alcohol, it’s about people’s idols, their pride their selfishness and their sin. They fill themselves up on their idols and it affects their judgement, their cognitive ability, just like an alcoholic.

The ‘weak’ part is those spiritually immature or not in any relationship with God, because this is the greatest weakness of all.

We are only strong, when we are in Christ’s wisdom, when we are spiritually mature, but I see those stuck and sinning as a result, hurting people, not making wise choices and it’s sad. I see clearly those who think they are mature Christians are not and I see how I need and want continual teaching from God and will be learning until I leave this earth. I will never be spiritually mature enough, as I will never be God.

The ‘cold as a stone and rich as a fool’ is about people and materialism, this society that promotes people who are famous, rich, successful in earthly matters, and criticises those spiritually rich, rejects them, can’t see their further spiritual progression, so attacks them. People become cold in their selfishness, they don’t see the needs of others, they are ‘all about themselves’. Their hearts are cold.

I am a firm believer in if you are rich, then you are not a Christian in the true sense, because you would want to share this with others. I couldn’t be a rich Christian, I wouldn’t be a rich Christian. I know Jesus spoke clearly of rich people not getting into heaven, and His life is my example and Jesus wasn’t rich, He had nothing and God provided what He needed, what His followers needed. God always provides for His people.

Rich Christians are fooling themselves if they believe accruing their wealth is okay. And if all the rich people in the world shared, there would be no poverty, simple as that.

And some will say this is so simplistic, but it really is as simple as that.

And I see with wealth comes status and pride and people have these as their idols too.

The ‘behind the tears, inside the lies, a thousand slowly dying sunsets’ for me, means the lies people tell themselves, the tears so many have in this world due to abuse, loneliness, poverty, shame and how so many have this fake façade to tell the world something different to what they really are inside, being too scared to be the real person they are, but inside they are dying.

People are dying, lonely, afraid and fading like a sunset, with no hope for a life to get better and I know that pain. I know terminal aloneness with complete lack of hope and the deep pain that no-one can understand unless they have endured it, over long periods of time. There is no other pain as deep as this, and I know – I have had every kind of abuse in my life.

There is more from this song that resonates with me about the sad, sinful side of life and due to the life I have lived, I know this so well.

This song has deep meaning for me and makes me cry, makes me sad for so many people enduring the pain, I know so well.

And I know God knows so much more of this than I ever will, but I have had a large portion of my life seeing the dark side of life, feeling the dark side of life, knowing evil at work.

But, still very aware, this is a fraction of what God feels.

I am a survivor of complex and multiple trauma and abuse, who at the age of 40, began my healing journey. I am using my journey to recovery and healing, to help others, to help survivors feel less alone, validated, encouraged and to enable others to understand themselves more. Complex trauma, particularly from severe, prolonged childhood abuse, is profoundly life changing. Complex trauma produces complex adults. The journey to recovery is a painful, often lonely, emotional daily challenge and it is my aim to encourage others in their daily battle. ~ Lilly Hope Lucario
