Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

A journey to healing from complex trauma.

Mary of Bethany – much to learn about woman roles…

I read an amazing book, recommended by my Christian doctor and it blew me away –

When Life and Beliefs Collide – Carolyn Custis James

What I learned about Mary of Bethany;

This all blows much wrong belief about ‘women’s roles in Church, marriage, etc, out of the water.

Women in church’s often believe their only role is Martha, but actually Mary was encouraged, to not be a ‘Martha’.

– Mary was encouraged by Jesus, to learn theology, at His feet, daily.

– Mary understood Jesus’ mission, more than the male disciples, who didn’t ‘get it’ until much later.

– Jesus wants everyone – men and women to learn theology.

– Mary due to her learning was the first NT theologian

– Mary spoke up when needed, as it is sin not to and Jesus encouraged this.

– Women have an equal role in the church, equal in importance

– Women’s voices, ‘need’ to be heard.

– Theology and church leadership, is not ‘mens’ work.

– When God created Eve, He created her as an Ezer, which mean strong helper, it does not state of less value or to only do ‘women’s work. (in fact the Proverbs 31 women worked, bought fields with her own money, worked outside of the home, for her family, so anyone who says a women’s role, is at home only, is not speaking of the Bible).

– Jesus opened the door to women in ministry, by encouraging Mary, to sit at his feet and learn theology and not be concerned with the kitchen duties, like Martha.

– Mary offered pastoral ministry to Jesus and He publicly accepted it, knocking this false belief that women cannot minister, speak or provide pastoral care, to men.

– The Body of Christ, needs women equal in theology and ministry, not of less than, to men.

– To have women in the church (or men), without theology knowledge, weakens to Body of Christ.

– Jesus applauded Mary, for making the disciples look wrong, publicly, because they were.

– Mary remained non offensive, not insensitive, or cavalier.

– Mary remained filled with grace and her conduct was above approach.

– Mary’s eyes were fixed on Jesus.

– Mary was the first to proclaim the gospel.

– Mary, was the first great theologian of the New Testament.

Author: Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

I am a survivor of complex and multiple trauma and abuse, who at the age of 40, began my healing journey. I am using my journey to recovery and healing, to help others, to help survivors feel less alone, validated, encouraged and to enable others to understand themselves more. Complex trauma, particularly from severe, prolonged childhood abuse, is profoundly life changing. Complex trauma produces complex adults. The journey to recovery is a painful, often lonely, emotional daily challenge and it is my aim to encourage others in their daily battle. ~ Lilly Hope Lucario

  1. Reblogged this on Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD and commented:

I gained much from this book.

It is geared towards intelligent women with brains, who are spiritually mature and have the capacity to realise, that women do indeed have an equal role within marriages, churches and life.

It challenges many Christians views on submission and women not having a place in church decisions and ministry.

But, it is Jesus’ Word. So He is right.
