A journey to healing from complex trauma.

Poem – Strength Slipping Away

Staring out the window
To a life she cannot risk
She no longer wants to belong
She tried for too long

Never ending healing journey
Draining, exhausting
Into the core of her soul
A fail old woman resides

Limping feebly each day
Capacity decreasing
Darkness always threatening
Just under the surface

Constant battle to contain
The darkness of pain
Forcing it back
To make it through

Dissociation, her old friend
Provides some relief
In the continual
Need to fight

She had so much strength
To endure so much pain
But strength is waning
No-one sees, or listens

Not as strong as she was
Beaten down, by so many
Deep searing pain and harm
Past her limit

There was deep strength
But, it’s slipping away
Through her fingers
Too weak to grasp it

So weak, no capacity left
To fight like before
So she remains
In her place of safety

Deeply scared to go outside
Fear of any further hurt
Being the final straw
She will breathe, no more

Author: Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

I am a survivor of complex and multiple trauma and abuse, who at the age of 40, began my healing journey. I am using my journey to recovery and healing, to help others, to help survivors feel less alone, validated, encouraged and to enable others to understand themselves more. Complex trauma, particularly from severe, prolonged childhood abuse, is profoundly life changing. Complex trauma produces complex adults. The journey to recovery is a painful, often lonely, emotional daily challenge and it is my aim to encourage others in their daily battle. ~ Lilly Hope Lucario
