A journey to healing from complex trauma.

Hives continue to worsen. Now my fingers are swelling up. But, I keep doing what I need to do.

For the last 6 months or so, I have had hives increasing and worsening and I now have them several times every day.

Today, all I did was sit this morning in the cooler winter sun with a cup of tea and the hives appeared. I had them when I had a (barely) warm shower, and twice when outside doing some light gardening activity. I pretty much get them if I do anything other than very little activity inside the house. Heat, anxiety, activity lead to hives.

They are beyond annoying now and increasingly worse. I get them all over my body, back, legs, arms, head, neck, hands and feet. They itch like holy hell and increase my irritability, anxiety and lower my mood, because it is every single day.

Over the last few days, I have noticed my fingers are also swelling up when I get the hives.

I need to see a specialist to see what is causing them. To see whether it is allergy related, because my blood tests showed elevated levels of something that indicates allergies. I’ve never had allergies in my life, or hives, so I have no idea what the allergy may be. Or why it would develop now. Or other tests to determine if they are caused by something else. And I don’t have the money to have these tests done quickly and will have to see my GP about going a waiting list to get these tests done on the public system. Which could take years.

Even the medication you can buy – anti-histamines are expensive, so I cannot afford to take them several times a day.

I’m dreading Spring/Summer, because any added heat makes the hives come out. And we have no air-conditioning. And I live in a subtropical area of Australia, which means the weather gets hot and humid.

This combined with chronic pain, chronic tiredness, PTSD, Complex PTSD, stress, anxiety, insomniaΒ etc, does not make life easy, at all. Continue reading
