Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

A journey to healing from complex trauma.

Spiritual abuse causes considerable harm & PTSD / Complex PTSD. Something not talked about much, but should be.

Spiritual abuse is rampant and causes considerable mental health issues, including PTSD and Complex PTSD, along with depression, anxiety and suicide.

Not many are talking about this, but I will.

I am aware of how rampant spiritual/religious abuse is, and the effects of it. Which of course, most church people choose to ignore, or minimize, justify, rationalise – and all those other cognitive distortions many church people have.

I understand the devastating effects of spiritual abuse, the amount of abuse occurring within religion, along with child abuse, domestic violence, child sexual abuse and all the emotional/psychological/mental abuse that pervades religion.

I’ve been attacked by ‘church people’, for raising this issue. Further abuse.

Tough, I don’t care whether they approve or not. I will raise it anyway. Because I have the empathy and compassion needed to support and care about those affected by religious/spiritual abuse.

I should add here…. I am a Christian. Just not one that chooses spiritual abuse, or condoning, enabling and justifying it, like far too many church people.

This pervading abuse so many participate in, is absolutely nothing to do with God, or a reflection of Jesus.

Author: Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

I am a survivor of complex and multiple trauma and abuse, who at the age of 40, began my healing journey. I am using my journey to recovery and healing, to help others, to help survivors feel less alone, validated, encouraged and to enable others to understand themselves more. Complex trauma, particularly from severe, prolonged childhood abuse, is profoundly life changing. Complex trauma produces complex adults. The journey to recovery is a painful, often lonely, emotional daily challenge and it is my aim to encourage others in their daily battle. ~ Lilly Hope Lucario

  1. Bravo!! Well said!!

It has taken me a long time to face the fact that church people and/or religious people did not have my best interests at heart and are in fact Abusers who hide behind the Bible like cowards.

They caused me a lot of harm & trauma.

It is heartbreaking when you realise that many church people absolutely do not have your best interests at heart and choose to victim shame/blame and have many cognitively distorted issues, and highly dysfunctional beliefs.

The only way I have coped with this, is to understand it is all 'their' issues, and not a reflection of me, at all.

Many religious people are really screwed up, and have no self insight/self awareness into that. They then 'choose' to use the Bible and selectied Bible quotes, to abuse people, with no remorse, no conscience and no empathy.

Sadly, this happens more than is realised.

And it is trauma and it is abuse. Something I will not lack courage/wisdom/insight, in stating.
