Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

A journey to healing from complex trauma.

Started volunteering at the local Meals On Wheels. It went so well!

Volunteering is important to me. It’s also important I am within an organised, well run, friendly, healthy environment.

So, with the kind help of a friend, I started today. I was showed around, introduced to some of the people there, and they all seemed lovely. The managers were lovely and very friendly ladies and I felt comfortable.

After helping out in the kitchen, my friend and I went out on a delivery run. It went so well. We met some lovely elderly people, and sadly saw some living in filthy conditions. But, I felt at least we were helping them with these meals.

I’m used to seeing all kinds of living conditions, having worked in social housing for 15 years and visiting social housing tenants. You get to see everything in that job. The good, the bad and downright ugly stuff of life. Including elderly people who have varying home and health conditions.

I felt completely comfortable doing this delivery run, chatting a little with the people we visited. It went well and I felt like I was able to be a part of a professional, mature, well run, organised charity that makes a difference in the community for those in need.

I also let the manager know my previous job and how I can also help out with office/admin work, if required. She seemed quite excited about this, as a lot of the volunteers are older and not so good with computerised systems. I think that’s where I will be able to help the most…. delivering meals and office work.

After the volunteering, had a coffee and a chat with my friend. A great day all round!

Tomorrow will be good too, I am catching up with an old friend I have not seen for over a year. Looking forward to that.

My life has suddenly become a lot busier, a lot more social and whilst I realise I must not overdo it, I am enjoying it.

I am a survivor of complex and multiple trauma and abuse, who at the age of 40, began my healing journey. I am using my journey to recovery and healing, to help others, to help survivors feel less alone, validated, encouraged and to enable others to understand themselves more. Complex trauma, particularly from severe, prolonged childhood abuse, is profoundly life changing. Complex trauma produces complex adults. The journey to recovery is a painful, often lonely, emotional daily challenge and it is my aim to encourage others in their daily battle. ~ Lilly Hope Lucario

  1. Yay I’m so happy for you. I loved meals on wheels. It was so hard after the earthquakes not to see them again. Must sign up again and get out of this rut

  2. I’m so glad you are enjoying things so much more! Its wonderful you have found things to make you happy. Making a difference and volunteering is a great feeling! I’ve helped in charity shops before and also worked in social care etc..Be so proud of yourself Lily! hugs! ❤

  3. Thank you both! I think those of who have suffered, particularly in childhood, often become those who wish to help others and volunteer.
