Yes, the term ‘disorder’ is appropriate for PTSD

A lot of people fail to look at the bigger picture, when considering something that affects them. They only see their own needs, and fail to consider the needs of others.

People say the term disorder, is stigmatising. I ask those people, how is it any more stigmatising to call PTSD a disorder, than e.g. Bipolar, Schizophrenia, OCD?

Most mental health disorders, have occurred following some kind of trauma, neglect or abuse.

So there is no difference.

So, some of the people causing stigma…. are those who claim PTSD should be treated differently.

People need to see past their own issues, and see the bigger picture. Failing to do this, is how inappropriate attitudes, shaming and stigma, occur. Continue reading
