Creativity, is healing for the traumatised brain ~ Lilly Hope Lucario

I have various creative interests and I have recently re-ignited my love of scrapbooking and framed layouts. Creativity, is known to be excellent for the traumatised brain. And many child abuse survivors, find outlets in creativity, which also helps inner child healing.

I mostly concentrate on layouts of my two sons, which I don’t publicly show. But, this is one I did last week, of my puppy 🙂 This was the day we picked her up & she was a little bundle of cuteness, sat on my lap, shaking like a leaf. She is a much loved member of our family and we adore her. Having boys, means more masculine layouts, but now having a female puppy – means doing girlie ones 🙂

Creativity, gardening, sewing, are all in my healing toolbox. An enjoyable way to be mindful, be grounded and creating lovely things. Continue reading

Collage frame craft – creativity aids trauma healing :)

I have done enough research to know how creativity is beneficial to trauma survivors. I’ve been wanting to create collages of my boys, for some time. But, not given myself the time to do it. And I know I will benefit from creative activities, on a regular basis.

As the last few weeks have been so rough, emotional and painful… I decided this week – I need more of the self care I always encourage others to have. I am aware I do not always ‘practise what I preach’.

So, I decided today would be a crafty day. Dropped my son at school, and went to the shops. Wandered around the cheap shops for a decent collage frame and some crafty bits and pieces to decorate it.

My youngest son recently had his 7th Birthday and we went to the local zoo and I have lots of great photos. So went to get the photos printed.

The frame I chose is one of those pre-cut collage type frames. But, I intend doing crafty things to the mount and decorating inside the frame, and adding to the frame itself. So, it will not look like a pre-cut collage mount frame, when I’ve finished.

It has been such a tough few weeks, that going to the shops alone, was exhausting. I am emotionally, mentally and physically drained. But, I did get the photos developed I wanted to use and bought the frame and craft supplies.

I am normally a quick worker with my craft, scrapbooking, card making etc. But, I am clearly going to need to do this collage frame over several days. My energy levels are really low.

So, for today, I have supplies. I’ve rummaged through Continue reading

Why ‘buy’ stuff for my inner child, when I can make it.

I love sewing, although only very basic stuff and one type of clothing I do know how to make, is pillow case dresses and tops.

As I was wandering around Spotlight earlier, looking at material to stretch over canvases, I was admiring all the Christmas materials, thinking how beautiful some would be as little girls dresses and suddenly realised, I can ‘make’ dresses for my inner child.

I picked some beautiful material and some co-ordinating ribbon and will make a pretty dress for Christmas for my inner little girl.

This will incorporate some mindfulness, as I have to really concentrate when sewing, creativity and inner child healing, all at the same time.

Perfect!

Started my day, with creativity with my boys :)

Woke up early this morning and my youngest son who is 5, wanted to do craft immediately, as he is really into it. So, being tired (yucky dreams) I agreed to do this, as long as he could do craft and I would sit with him at the table and colour-in.

He was happy with that, so that’s what we did. My 12 year old got up an hour later, and wanted to join in. So he came and joined us, and did ’12 year old’ drawing.

It was great! The boys had fun, we all sat and were chatting as we enjoyed our individual activities. There was no sibling arguing, no TV on, just relaxed, family fun. And creativity stuff is good for the brain too. Continue reading
